Welcome to my nightmare... I think you're gonna like it!

Welcome to Kat's Guide to Goth!

A crash course in the history of the goth subculture for interested furs!

If you've ever hung around in any online space dedicated to sharing art, furry or otherwise, for an extended length of time, there's almost a mathematical guarantee you've heard someone gush about their love for goths. Characters adorned in all black attire, with shadowy makeup to match, pop up with a healthy regularity in art channels, and even in casual conversation. If you find this look attractive, as many do (myself included), you have certainly no shortage of relevant erotic art to peruse.

For a while now, however, it's bothered me that there's a not insignificant portion of furries - and the population at large, in all honesty - that despite lusting for goths, know very little about the subculture. How it came to be, what music goths listen to, what draws people to it in the first place. The accompanying visual aesthetics are so often reduced to a fetish that it totally overshadows the richness of the movement, and in this kind of milieu, misconceptions about goth spread like wildfire, ranging from the gross stereotype that all goths must be aggressively kinky sex machines, to the simple frustration of My Chemical Romance being called goth (or, vice versa, anything goth being called emo). They are different!

In case you've been sent this page without seeing the rest of the site first, hi, I'm Jamie Kat - Kat for short - and I'm a goth! I'm a member of a subculture with a fascinating history stretching back to the late 70's, centered around various offshoots of post-punk music. This portion of my site will basically be one long infodump from yours truly, with the goal that you hopefully come out of it with a deeper understanding of all things goth.

As of right now, this page is under construction. I'm going to do my damndest to make this as presentable as possible!

Stay tuned!
